We decided to go because at 8:45am the kids were already restless. It just felt like one of those mornings where staying home was going to turn into chaos anyway, so we chose to get out and move the energy somewhere else.
We started our day in Mystic with no real strict plan—just the idea that we’d explore a little, eat something good, and let the kids enjoy themselves.
Our first stop was Olde Mistick Village. Hunger came first (as it usually does with kids in tow), and we ended up at Alice in the Village. I had a rose macaron that was honestly so good, and the girls got sweet drinks and treats too. It was the perfect soft landing into the day—slow walking, browsing a little, just easing in.
From there, things naturally turned into a little shopping adventure. We wandered into a bohemian-style shop and I ended up picking up a few things I didn’t expect: flowy bohemian pants, an evil eye bracelet for my toddler, matching anklets for my 12-year-old and myself, and a small copper nugget to help balance my body and moods. It was one of those stops where everything just felt a little meaningful in a subtle way.
After that came a food reset—pizza at Mango’s. We actually timed it perfectly and got there just before a line formed, small wins like that make me happy. Sitting outside made everything easier with the toddler. Less stress, more space, more air.
Then the day shifted into a more whimsical, magical stretch. We went into a fantasy-style shop full of Harry Potter-inspired items, tarot decks, and fun drinks. I almost bought a couple of tarot decks but decided to wait. Right next door, we stopped into a crystal and metaphysical shop filled with incense, oracle cards, soaps, and stones. It also had a lovely, somehow calming scent in the air.
We also hit a manga shop because my 12-year-old loves manga. She picked out a book and a snack, which felt like her own little moment in the day. I also got the baby a small toy there.

And here is where the day takes a turn that only parents will truly understand.
At the aquarium, my sweet 2-year-old decided that her new toy would make a great offering to the whale exhibit. And she threw it. Straight into the exhibit. I stood there like… really? She clearly can throw further than I gave her credit for. There was a brief moment of shock, a moment of “oh no,” ahh the realities of parenting a toddler in public.
After that, we kept going. Because that’s what you do. You keep moving.
We walked through the rest of the aquarium, taking everything in, and eventually wrapped up the day feeling tired but full—of snacks, steps, laughter, and stories we probably won’t forget anytime soon.

It wasn’t a perfectly planned itinerary. But we had fun and enjoyed time spent together, and didn't even have one toddler meltdown (that is a rare, but huge, win!). But it was real. And in its own way, it was exactly the kind of day I needed. And to be honest, I'm more of a wing it lady anyways.
